The media impact of the project has already exceeded 120 million euros thanks to the promotion carried out since its announcement in October 2020

It´s only nine months to go until the Solheim Cup, which is held for the first time in Spain. The most important tournament in women’s golf continues to produce positive figures for all the organisations, companies and institutions involved in its organisation.

One of the most relevant data corresponds to the media impact of the project, as it has exceeded 120 million euros thanks to the different events and promotional work that has been carried out since it was announced in October 2020.

Another figure to highlight is the current number of tickets that were sold, exceeding 45,000, while the weekly passes for the Solheim Pavilion sold out three months ago. It seems clear that this will be the first edition of the Solheim Cup to be sold out.

In terms of the origin of the visitors, the UK and Irish public are the largest, accounting for more than half of the tickets (53%), followed by Spanish spectators, with 21%, and other EU nationalities, with 18%.

Another fact that is breaking all barriers is the ticket sales among fans from the United States. While in previous editions of the Solheim Cup held in Europe, only 2% of the total number of tickets sold to the American public was sold, today the statistic has tripled to 6%.

The list of entries by nationality for the 2023 Solheim Cup is completed with 2%, which includes a wide variety of countries, especially Asian.

The great interest in the next edition of the Solheim Cup has also been reflected in the number of registered volunteers, which now exceeds two thousand, and on the tournament’s official website (solheimcup2023.eu), where the number of unique users has surpassed 150,000.

A competition as important as the Solheim Cup also brings with it the demand for a significant number of services such as reservations in hotels, restaurants, golf courses and car hire, estimated at a turnover of over 18 million euros. It should be noted that the bulk of these bookings are in the towns of Marbella and Benahavis, the nerve centre that will bring together the leisure activities at the event beyond the golf course.

The marketing of travel to the Solheim Cup is being carried out by 23 official tour operators based in nine different countries (Spain, Portugal, Ireland, United Kingdom, Germany, Finland, Denmark, Holland and the USA). This massive sale of package tours has led to another point that cannot be overlooked: there are only 1,100 rooms available at the Solheim Cup Accommodation Bureau.
In short, after analysing all these figures, the conclusion that can be drawn is that the commitment made four years ago by the Andalusian institutions, with the Junta de Andalucía, Turismo Costa del Sol, Acosol and the town councils of Marbella and Benahavis at the forefront, to bring the Solheim Cup to Spain, was more than successful. The Solheim Cup project, together with the Race to Costa del Sol – ranking of the Ladies European Tour – and the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, is showing that women’s golf is at the sweetest moment in its history, and that the Costa del Sol is one of the best tourist destinations for golf.
The Solheim Cup 2023, an event of exceptional public interest whose official venue is Finca Cortesín, is sponsored by PING, Costa del Sol and Rolex as global partners; and by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport of the Andalusian Regional Government, with co-financing from the European Union,  Acosol, Marbella Town Hall and Benahavís Town Hall as official partners, and Reale Seguros as official sponsor. Solán de Cabras,
Eversheds Sutherland, Casares Town Hall, Toro, Vithas, E-Z-GO and Jet Set Sports are official suppliers. Marca and Radio Marca are official media. Promoted and organised by Deporte & Business. LET, LPGA, RFEG, CSD and RFGA collaborate in its organisation.
